San Jorge Botanical Reserve – Quito. |
Our Quito lodge offers the convenience of a Quito hotel with the tranquility of mountain birding lodge.
Located on the outskirts of the city just 20 minutes from the airport, the San Jorge de Quito Lodge and Nature Reserve offers quality accommodation in an extraordinary converted hacienda used for religious retreats sited on a 240 private reserve which houses 110 bird species. The lodge is the perfect launching pad for either cultural tours (such as our tour of colonial Old Town Quito; La Mitad del Mundo; or Otavalo Indian Market) or outdoor adventures (birding, hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding).
Natural Areas
The lodge grounds include an extensive trail system that begins right outside your door, leading you to pristine highland rainforests, waterfalls, native plant gardens and wonderful panoramic views. Our Quito lodge is also the site of our invasive eucalyptus removal project, where we are striving to restore native habtitat for birds and animals. You are invited to explore the trails and birdwatch; we also offer excellent birding and naturalist tours on the grounds.

Accommodations
Accommodations include all modern conveniences and staff on-call 24 hours per day.
A converted hacienda, and later a farm nestled in the Pichincha foothills, the lodge is surrounded by beautifully maintained grounds conducive to relaxing.
You can enjoy a cup of tea on the patio and watch the sparkling violetears zip around on the hummingbird feeders, or cool your heels by the swimming pool after a hike to the waterfalls. Most rooms have views of the surrounding hills and volcanos around Quito, and as with all of our lodges, the restaurant serves superb meals made with great care using fresh, local ingredients. We also try to bring in local musicians and artists at least one night per week for entertainment.
Lodge Features:
- Double, triple, or quad rooms available
- Many rooms with views of nearby volcanos, Quito
- Private bathrooms with hot running water and flushing toilet
- Electricity in rooms
- Comfortable outdoor seating areas
- Healthy, delicious meals featuring fresh ingredients from our organic garden
- Bar with beer, cocktails, and soft drinks
